Diboll, Texas Now Has A New Web Based Crime Fighting Tool
Communities and neighborhoods all across the nation are using the power of high-speed, computer-controlled cameras to combat crime. Diboll is one of the first that I have heard of to implement a system in our area.
Since most people come in and out of the Diboll area on HWY 59/I69, it is pretty easy to implement automatic license plate readers or ALPRs on either side of town. Even after the town is bypassed by the new flyover, this system will still be at either end of the entrance of Diboll and taking note of every vehicle coming and going into the small town.
I did some research on the company that they went with, flock safety, and they have some very interesting products available for law enforcement, neighborhoods, and businesses to combat crime.
What Are The New Cameras In Diboll, Texas Used For?
According to Facebook, the Diboll Police Department has announced that the system they use is for finding stolen/wanted vehicles that pass the cameras at either end of town. When this happens an alert automatically goes to the agency. The department would like to set our minds at ease that they are not used for speeding, expired registration/inspection, or any other Class C violations.
The same can be said if there is a BOLO for an Amber or Silver Alert. If that vehicle passes through town, they will instantly get a notification.
They can also use the camera system to identify suspect vehicles for all types of crimes. If they are looking for a blue Toyota truck in connection with a burglary, all they have to do is search for all those types of vehicles that were spotted coming into town at that time.
The camera systems are also linked up with other law enforcement agencies in other cities that utilize them to further aid in suspect searches. There are some oppositions to these types of license plate readers, and I can see where they could pose privacy risks for the general public if used improperly.
