This is quite the milestone in the Mexican Community.  It's the 150's Anniversary of the Mexican Army's victory over Napoleon's mighty French Army, at the battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862.  Way back then I bet they had no idea that we would celebrate this holiday 150 years later.

This is the 16th year for the Communities Cinco De Mayo Benefit Festival at Kiwanis Park in Lufkin.  We were there last year, and I was amazed at the turn out.  Over 9,000 people attend the event and there were over 75 vendors from all over.

We will be there Saturday - look for the K-FOX vehicle in the park from 11am to 5pm.  Come out and celebrate with us!  There will be a Pinata filled for Edwin Rodriguez, the focus of this years events.  Donations will go towards this 7 year old boy from Diboll that is battling heart problems.  The funds go to other great causes as well.  Since 1997, this event has raised over $309,000 dollars for scholarships for local area students (including the young lady in the photo above).
