Expect Delays In Nacogdoches For Accident Reconstruction
The Nacogdoches Police Department Traffic Division is conducting an accident reconstruction for the fatal auto-pedestrian accident that occurred in the 2100 block of E.Main St. on December 31, 2021.
East Main Street between Lamar St. and Halsy St. will be completely shut down today (January 6th, 2021) between 9 am and 1 pm. Expect delays in that area, and choose an alternate route if possible at these times.
TX Dot will be on the scene rerouting east and west-bound traffic. This investigation will hopefully lead to a safer community in the wake of so many auto-pedestrian fatalities in the past months.
When Did This Fatal Accident Happen?

This is just one of many fatal pedestrian accidents that has begun to plague the Lufkin and Nacogdoches area. It was not a great way to start the New Year.
How Can You Prevent This From Happening?
If you are a pedestrian take the sidewalk when ever possible. Only cross streets at crosswalks or intersections.
Keep your head on a swivel and look for cars in all directions. Watch especially for cars that are turning left or right.
If you must walk in the road, plan ahead and try to wear something bright. Walk facing traffic, the exact opposite of the direction and side of the road you would use if you were driving. Avoid walking on the road if you are impaired.
If you drive through areas that are known to have multiple pedestrians, keep an eye out for people walking. Speed and lack of attention usually play a part in these accidents. Lets all do our part in making the roads safer for everyone.
