“I am Groot.” With the exception of one small variation, this is the only thing we hear from Vin Diesel’s Groot throughout Guardians of the Galaxy. What makes this such a funny running joke isn’t the fact that he only says the one phrase, though; it’s the fact that Rocket Raccoon understands him perfectly, unearthing complicated sentiments and emotions from three simple words. Translating Groot’s dialogue would be like un-bleeping the profanity in an episode of South Park: you pretty much already know what Groot is saying, and the jokes just work better this way.

Of course, just because audiences don’t need to know what Groot says doesn’t mean Vin Diesel shouldn’t have a specific idea in mind when delivering his lines. It’s important that Diesel give each line its own distinct phrasing and inflection, and to do that, he needs to know what his character is supposed to be saying. And as it turns out, James Gunn has a special script for Diesel that helps him do just that.

Gunn went on Facebook (via Heroic Hollywood) late Friday night to share his special Groot version of the screenplay for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that only he and Diesel possess.

That’s right, Marvel fans: only Diesel and Gunn have copies of the Groot Version of the screenplay. So if you’re desperate to know what exactly is going on every time Groot utters his name, you’re either going to have to use your imagination or plot an elaborate heist to break into Diesel’s home and steal his copy of the script. Hey, that actually sounds like a pretty fun premise for a movie. Maybe we could get James Gunn to direct?

In addition to Diesel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will bring back Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the voice of Bradley Cooper (as well as newcomers Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone). The movie will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
