That evening, when I was coming back to Lufkin, I saw the lights of many first responders up on the hill and was directed by the Angelina County Sheriff's Office to go down FM 2021 to Highway 69 to get back home.
I didn't think much about it, since it only added about five minutes to the trip, but I said a prayer for all involved. I was saddened to learn it was an accident involving five vehicles and injuring eight individuals.
Texas DPS Report Of Five-Vehicle Crash Released
According to the Lufkin Daily News, the crash on Highway 103 West happened around 5:48 PM when a westbound 2012 Honda Accord and a 2007 Toyota Tacoma, an eastbound 2025 Ford F150, a 2024 International Truck towing a box trailer, and a 2007 GMC Yukon all met at the top of the hill.
That area has a quick passing lane to get around trucks that are having issues getting up the hill. The driver of the Honda slowed down in its lane for an unknown reason and was struck from behind by the Toyota. The Honda was then pushed into the east lane and was struck by the GMC, the Semi, and the Ford.
