If you are the middle child of your family, today is the day where you don't have to share the light with anyone else! Today is all about YOU! It's National Middle Child Day. Oh, and yes, there really is such a day.

Started in 1986 by Elizabeth Walker, National Middle Child Day, sets aside August 12 every year to celebrate those middle siblings who, more often than not, have feelings of being left out or unseen, and to give them a special day of their own.

The website nationaltoday.com has this to say about you and all the other blessed middle children of the world:

If you have siblings, you know the rivalry can get real. Middle children often get less attention from busy parents. But despite the commonly held belief that their insecurity and resentment carries on into adulthood, middle children actually develop some critical skills that help them become successful adults.

Course, as it is with the drama commonly associated with the middle child (true or not), even the date of Middle Child Day is now under scrutiny. Apparently, the International Middle Child’s Union, is seeking to change the date of the annual acknowledgement to July 2, which falls in the exact middle of the calendar year.

Nonetheless, middle children of America, today is your day!  And just look at these other famous middle children that share your status:

  • Tom Hiddleston
  • Anne Hathaway
  • David Letterman
  • Jennifer Lopez
  • Chris Hemsworth
  • Britney Spears
  • Owen Wilson
  • Jennifer Aniston
  • Sarah Jessica Parker
  • Peyton Manning
