I think the Huntington Red Devils should officially change their team colors to red, white and blue.  Patriotism and love of country runs deep in this community.  I've had the privilege and honor over the past 20+ years to be a part of the school's Veterans Day program, and I'm looking forward to being there again in just a few weeks.

When you drive in Huntington around the time of November 11, you can't help but notice the vast array of American flags lining many of the major roadways in the community.  The city looks like a scene out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

This year, however, Huntington is looking to take red, white and blue to the next level.  Organizers have established the lofty goal of placing 1,000 flags along the streets of Huntington.  Currently, 400 flags have been sold, so there is a lot of ground to make up in a very short period of time.  The hope is to have a beautiful array of flags lining the streets of Huntington for their Veterans Day Parade and Veterans Day Ceremony.

Businesses, residents, churches and anyone else wanting to purchase a flag or two or several are asked to contact the Huntington Independent School District's Administration Office.  You can get an order form there.  The cost of a flag is $40. If you are in charge of local business, a check for $400 will line a whole city block with American flags.

So, let's get Highway 69 and Main Street in Huntington lined with the Stars and Stripes.  Remember to come out to the Veteran's Day Parade on Saturday, November 6, as well as to the Veterans Day program on November 11 at Huntington High School.
