East Texans are in for a welcome change over the next several days. A rare August cold front is expected to slowly push across much of the Lone Star State.

No, it's not time to break out the hoodies just yet, but let's break down what we can expect across the Pineywoods over the next week.

How Much Cooler Is It Going To Get?

Just a few degrees, but any drop in temperature during the summer is welcome, right?

A Heat Advisory is in place across most of East Texas on Wednesday. The 'feels like' temperature will be well into the triple digits from the ArkLaTex to Houston.

Once Thursday gets here, we're talking about high temperatures around 94, and heat indices around 103. Yes, hot...but not as hot. So, instead of sweating as soon as you walk outside, it should take several minutes to start soaking your shirt.

Some locations across East Texas could experience low temperatures into the upper 60s when the sun rises Saturday and Sunday.

In fact, some medium-range forecasts suggest overnight lows could make it to the mid-60s late next week. But the Climate Prediction Center expects a return to above-average heat for most of the first half of September.

East Texas Stormy Weather Outlook

The cold front will also bring increased chances of rain and thunderstorms through Saturday. Forecasters are predicting a 60% chance of rain on Wednesday and Thursday, while dropping to a 40% chance on Friday.

A few strong storms are possible, but severe weather is not expected. Accumulated rainfall totals are not anticipated to be more than an inch over the next several days.
