Patriots Trade Former LSU Wide Receiver Kayshon Boutte to Houston Texans

This late pre-season NFL trade is bringing a former LSU Tiger receiver closer to home. The New England Patriots have agreed to trade Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans in a somewhat surprising move.

In exchange for the Louisiana native, the Patriots will get back Safety Jaylen Reed, and a 7th Round pick in the 2028 NFL Draft. This deal gives the Texans an offensive asset to help with some recent injury concerns, while providing New England with defensive depth.

From LSU Standout to Patriots Playmaker

Boutte was born and raised in New Iberia, Louisiana, where he played football for Westgate High School. After his Westgate days, he went on to play at LSU...where he racked up 16 touchdowns over his 3 year career. He turned into an important piece of an offense that went to a pair of bowl games, before entering the professional ranks.

The Patriots selected him in the 6th Round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and he would go on to transform from a late-round pick, into a factor for the New England offense. While he did not start a game his rookie season, he would end up starting 23 games over his last two seasons.

During that span, he recorded over 1,000 receiving yards, and secured 9 touchdowns. He became a main contributor during the Patriots AFC Championship run last season. During that run, Boutte caught nine passes in the postseason for 168 yards, averaging 18.7 yards per catch. He scored a playoff touchdown against the Texans...the franchise he is now joining.

Houston Addresses Roster Following Injury

The Houston Texans were forced to make a roster move after losing second-year receiver Jayden Higgins to a torn ACL last week. Higgins was projected to be a primary target before his season-ending injury.

Management has been active in free agency to patch the holes on their depth chart; the front office also brought in veterans Zay Jones and Sterling Shepard to compete for positions on the active roster.
