Texas Drivers Face Rising Gas Prices Heading Into Fall

This isn't the news Texas drivers are going to want to hear. Fall is supposed to be the season when gas prices start to drop. We are entering the beginning of the holiday season when people start planning for their holiday purchases, and it looks like this year the holiday budget will have to be cut down. Gas prices took another jump this week, and we are close to paying $4 per gallon in the Lonestar State.

Texas Gas Prices By The Numbers

According to AAA Texas, the average price per gallon for unleaded in Texas is now $3.93. That is a 10 cent jump from last week. El Paso still tops the list paying $4.41 per gallon, just 3 cents cheaper than the national average which is $4.44 per gallon. Houston is paying the least at $3.83 per gallon. San Angelo has the highest increase, from $3.94 to $4.15, up 21 cents.

Why Are Gas Prices Rising In The Fall?

Texas drivers are seeing an unusual trend for this time of year. Gas prices typically decline after the summer travel season, but persistently high crude oil prices are pushing costs in the opposite direction,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson.

According to OilPrice.com, Brent crude oil is $104.70 per barrel, while WTI crude is at $101.80.

Average gasoline and diesel prices rose in every state over the last week as geopolitical tensions escalated on multiple fronts, with friction between the U.S. and Iran, new hostilities in the Red Sea, and the shutdown of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline all combining to jolt prices sharply higher,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll see a downward trend anytime soon. You'll probably want to start adjusting your budgets for increased gas costs.
