Kingtown Volunteers Transform Sam Rayburn Access
The Kingtown boat ramp on Sam Rayburn is a lesser-known place to put in on the north end of the lake. It's always been a pretty nice little boat ramp, but lately, the area nearby needed some clearing out.

The Kingtown community wasn't going to let that keep them from enjoying the lake this year. According to an interview with James Guest on KTRE, they got permission from the Army Corps of Engineers to work on the lakefront to create a public space.
It is one of the few areas in Nacogdoches County actually on the lake, and it also provides access to the Angelina River. Kingtown is trying to attract customers and grow businesses in their area, so they all got together to clean the boat ramp.
Local Kingtown Volunteers Trying To Pull The Area Out Of Poverty
The Kingtown Volunteer Fire Department and the Kingtown Economic Redevelopment Corporation have a five-year permit to maintain the area. They worked together clearing all of the dangerous deadfall and trees.
They hope to bring the area out of poverty by developing the lakefront and making it a destination. Fishing, recreational sports, and the businesses that support them could bring more jobs to the area.

The goal is for children to be able to come to fish and swim from the bank without any fear. This will be an ongoing project for them, and will provide some areas to enjoy Lake Sam Rayburn that don't involve the overutilized boat ramp.
