Lufkin Is One Of The Top 100 Texas Cities for Families

We're not the best, but considering there are more than three thousand cities in Texas and 28 million people, being a Top 100 city might be alright.  Oh, and who ranks higher, Lufkin, or Nacogdoches?

Wallethub ranked our Texas cities on how well they cater to families and used criteria like the number of playgrounds per capita, the violent crime rate and the divorce rate.

With that in mind, they said Frisco (just north of Dallas) is the best place in the state for families.  And actually, all of the cities that made the Top 10 are in the Dallas-Fort Worth footprint.  They got lotsa playgrounds over there.

And now, the drumroll.  Who gets the bragging rights between Lufkin and Nacogdoches?

Nacogdoches ranked #76 and Lufkin came in at #82.  WalletHub said it only compared the 117 of the largest cities in Texas on 21 metrics, so we don't know where Diboll ended up.  Or Hudson or Huntington or any of our other friends around Lufkin and Nac.  Would Zavalla have kicked both Nacogdoches and Lufkin's butts?  We don't know!  But we love you all equally.

Lufkin and Nacogdoches both scored so-so in the categories of "Education and health," "Affordability," and "Socioeconomic environment" where they considered the jobless rate, foreclosures, and poverty levels.  The category we both ranked the highest in was "Family life and Fun."  Woohoo!  We have mastered fun around here.  But we'll have to add jobs and improve the divorce rate if we want to catch the eighty-six towns that ranked higher overall.

I always say this, but I just hope you love where you are and can make the most of it no matter what you're workin' with.  Maybe we'll let the Lufkin and Nacogdoches football teams settle who's better this fall?   Until then, we'll just have to celebrate the fun factor in both places, with water slides, lakes, festivals, and sunburns this summer.

East Texas is a pretty great place for families overall if you ask us.
