Over the past decade, numerous vape shops have emerged throughout the Lufkin area. Some try to provide a healthier alternative to help Texans become former smokers, while others are very different.

The Texas legislature has taken steps recently to ban the sale of single-use, disposable battery devices. Now the City of Lufkin is putting local ordinances on this segment of industry.

According to the Lufkin Daily News, officials in Lufkin now have regulations in place that dictate where vape shop retail stores can operate. Under this new city code, they cannot open within 1,000 feet of a school, church, or hospital.

What About My Favorite Vape Shop In Lufkin?

You might be looking at where your favorite vape shop is and wondering how close it is to one of these types of buildings. There are many churches in town, so it will limit the number of places these entities can operate.

Vape shops will now only be allowed by special use permit in light manufacturing and heavy manufacturing zones. There are provisions in the ordinance that will grandfather in any existing vape shop.

Should any of them discontinue to operate for more than six months, it will automatically lose its special use permit. The ordinance was passed during a recent meeting by a 6-1 vote.
