I had access to Waymo Robotaxis once, but never took a ride in one. Something about not having someone at the wheel is a bit unsettling.

I've also seen too many videos of them going around parking lots in a circle. Not a great look when you are trying to get to the airport on time.

Now Lyft is going to get into the driverless carriage game. They will have one of their self-driving vehicle partners on their app for the very first time in Dallas, Texas as early as next year.

The app will likely have different costs for both. That might make the decision about which one to use harder.

When using Waymo they are only for those specific robotaxis. Lyft will likely put them side by side with their live drivers. This could make them more appealing or at least seem more mainstream.

Three total companies are combining forces to make this all happen. Lyft will handle getting the riders, Mobileye will provide the software and hardware, and Marubeni Corp will provide the vehicles.

So Far No Word On What The Cars Will Look Like

So far we don't know what type of people mover they are thinking of unleashing in Dallas traffic. They will need to be pretty nice to match Waymo's fleet of Jaguars coming to Austin. I believe a self-driving Lamborgini might convince me to take a ride.
