Nac Safe Place 2nd Annual Suicide Awareness Walk Doubles Attendance

Nac Safe Place had its 2nd Annual Suicide Awareness Walk on September 7th at Festival Park in Nacogdoches. Participation doubled from last year with many people walking the downtown route.

According to their Facebook, they were very grateful for all of the sponsors, vendors, families, volunteers, and each individual who participated. The event was a big success and furthers their goals of raising awareness and fighting the stigma around mental health.

I got to attend the first Suicide Walk with Nac Safe Place, and it is a moving event with a memorial garden, food trucks, candlelight vigil, education, and support.

What Is Nac Safe Place? 

Safe Place is a collaboration of community agencies, schools, and law enforcement dedicated to the mental health and wellness of our community. The Safe Place is there to increase awareness about suicide as a public health problem that can be prevented.

Safe Place wants to reduce the stigma associated with suicide. Doing that will increase everyone's ability to seek help and prevent further loss of life.
