A new trailer has arrived for BBC’s popular sci-fi drama Doctor Who, which comes back with new episodes New Year’s Day, January 1, 2020. The show is entering its 12th season, now with Jodie Whittaker as the Time Lord. Whittaker’s Doctor is the Thirteenth Doctor, taking over from Peter Capaldi for the 11th season. She is the first female Doctor to ever exist on the show. The season premiere will be “Spyfall,” a two-part special at 8PM. Watch the trailer below:

“Crisis. Big crisis. Serious crisis. Big, serious crisis... Kisses!” The new trailer establishes from the first few moments that the Doctor has a lot on her hands. She and her trusty companions Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yaz (Mandip Gill), and Graham (Bradley Walsh) reunite to fight off Cybermen and alien mercenaries known as the Judoon, as seen in these Season 12 filming photos.

Doctor Who, executive produced by Chris Chibnall and Matt Stevens, will ring in the new year on both BBC One and BBC America. Following the premiere, Doctor Who will air on Sundays like its previous season. In addition, BBC America has teamed up with BBC Studios and Fathom Events to bring the second episode to 600 theaters in the U.S. for a one-day-only special event on January 5th. The screening will be followed by a broadcasted Q&A with cast members Whittaker, Cole, and Gill from The Paley Center for Media in New York.
