Strong to severe storms are possible across parts of the Pineywoods on Thursday.  Rain chances will actually ramp up Thursday morning and continue throughout the day and evening, but according to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the mid-morning to early-afternoon hours will provide the best chance for the heaviest and strongest of the storms.

How Bad Will the Storms Get?

For the most part, Deep East Texas will get a few short-lived showers and storms that will probably drop less than a half-inch of rain.  However, some of those storms could get a bit stronger and a severe storm can not be ruled out.  The good news is that tornadoes should not be in the mix for these storms, however straight-line winds over 50 mph and a few pockets of small hail could form in some of these systems.

Hurricane Season is Here

As of June 1, the Atlantic hurricane season is here.  It runs all the way through November 30, and right on cue, we have a system to talk about.

There is an area of disorganized storms over the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.  This system is actually the remnants of what was once Hurricane Agatha in the Pacific.  It has traveled eastward and is expected to strengthen as it travels towards Cuba and eventually southern Florida.

It is expected to become more organized and possibly form into a tropical storm before making landfall in Florida.  If it does become a tropical storm, it will be named Tropical Storm Alex.
