A strong cold front is slowly moving across northeastern Texas this evening and triggering storms in the process.  By the way, when I say strong, it does mean we will be having much cooler temperatures for the first part of the week, but no where near the taste of the Arctic we had two weeks ago.

Some of the storm are reaching severe limits and now the Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 tonight for portions of Deep East Texas.  The counties included are Nacogdoches, Shelby, Rusk, Cherokee, Panola and other counties to the north.  Angelina County is not included at this time, but should be wary of strong storms and changing weather conditions.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued because strong storms with a few severe embedded storms are possible in the watch area.  The prime threats with these storms are strong, gusty winds in excess of 50 mph and pea to marble-sized hail.  Tornadoes can't be ruled out, but the main threat of twisters should be in the Ark-La-Tex and into Arkansas.

Keep in mind that some of the stronger gusts in the these storm may dislodged limbs that were broken off during the ice storm.  Heavy rainstorms over the next 24 hours are also expected and could dump in excess of 2 inches of rain across the watch area and throughout the Pineywoods.  Temperatures will drop overnight.  Expect highs only in the 50s on Monday with strong north winds giving us wind chills in the 30s.
