Creating online content is harder than most people think. Besides the fact that you need the proper equipment just to make sure your vlog or podcast doesn't look like garbage, you also have to be charismatic, dedicated, and you'll most likely have to edit everything yourself.

Not to mention the fact that we just don't seem to have a lot of tech savvy folks in East Texas.

It can be demoralizing when you spend your entire day sharing what you believe will be entertaining or educational for your viewers, only to see that your video or social media page isn't getting the love you initially thought it would.

It can feel like an uphill battle for months and months, and as creators, you just have to stick to it.

I'm going to give a special shout out to a few East Texas creators that I want to see more of in 2018 and on.

    redarmyknife

    YouTube Channel

This young creator has shares her adventures with her YouTube channel.

Redarmyknife tends to keep her videos short, even if she's spent the day modeling, hanging out with cute animals, visiting beautiful landscapes, or even taste testing foreign candy.

Whether you're into anime, gaming, or anything Kawaii ... redarmyknife is a YouTube channel you should be following.

She's just making Lufkin cooler by existing in it. You may find her doing videos for Black Spot Tattoo Co. in Lufkin now, but she might just start vlogging her daily life again soon.

    Screen It or Stream It

    YouTube Channel

These movie buffs and self proclaimed geeks are looking out for their fellow East Texans by watching movies and letting us know if they should be worth our time and money.

Further more, they give us free or cheap alternatives that could satisfy our entertainment needs in the comfort of our own homes.

Whatever the movie currently in theaters is, they know of a movie that achieves the same premise or theme, and they tell you where to find it in a fun, humorous manner.

Lately they've added Top 5 lists, and full reviews to their repertoire.

These guys are public servants and we don't deserve their awesomeness. Check 'em out.

    Mailane Ly

    YouTube Channel

If you go to YouTube and type, "Lufkin vlog," her's is the first one that pops up.

Yes, her family owns Shipley Donuts in Lufkin, and yes you will need a Texas kolache or two after watching her videos, but she brings so much more for our viewing pleasure.

This is a true vlog in every sense of the word. (Is "vlog" a word yet?)

She's using YouTube as a video diary. She even leaves goofs and last second changes of plan in the final edits. We get a clear view of her point of view and cheery take on life. She's a breath of fresh air that Lufkin desperately needs.

    The Internet Legend

    YouTube Channel

    Herbert Midgley

If you thought I was going to do an East Texas creator shout out and leave Herbert "The Internet Legend" Midgley off my list, you were incredibly wrong.

This man has no filter. Well, he computes everything like a robo-man, so I guess that's his filter.

Writer, director, and actor in the movie, "The Rise of the Robots" (which you can purchase on Amazon) Herbert lets nothing slow him down.

The term octuple threat is the highest "tuple" I know, but it's still not enough to describe what all this guy is capable of. Just go to his YouTube channel and see for yourself.

Everyone that wishes to become an online content creator can learn a lot from Mr. Midgley. He can generate laughs longer than his short videos, and he really proves that ANYTHING can be it's own standalone video.

    Daniel Standley Videos

If you like alternative comedy like "Tim and Eric," or offbeat humor and complete insanity in your music, you have to check out Daniel Standley's line of work.

I've known this guy for 3 years and I still can't tell if he's certifiably insane or if he's a mad genius.

He is pretty passionate about bringing laughter to those around him, and if he's not creating unique videos, he's sharing hilarious memes on his Facebook page.

    There's no off button.
