They, like us, really thrive at about 80 degrees. Mosquitos will start to slow down when the thermometer hits 60 degrees.

When the temperatures dip into the 50s they go dormant. Male mosquitos only live for a week, so surviving the winter is up to the females and their eggs.

Freezing Temperatures Can Kill Adult Mosquitos

Female mosquitos can hibernate like bears in freezing temperatures for up to 6 months or die off. They can also lay up to 300 eggs each in standing water. When the weather warms up and spring rains start, they will hatch.
