If you are looking for the very best food no matter where you are in the United States, you might turn to the USA Today Restaurants Of The Year List. Their food writers got together and selected all of their favorite spots.

Two Texas favorites showed up on the list, and they couldn't be more different. They are strangely in towns that I have frequented lately: Austin and Lubbock.

In Austin, their pick was Dai Due. The farm-to-table restaurant uses sustainable Texas-sourced ingredients.

Austin Comfort Food Restaurant Cooks With Tallow

Dai Due isn't the most exclusive restaurant in Austin. You don't have to wear much more than a T-shirt, shorts, and some flip-flops to enter.

It's just as laid back as the capital city of Texas. A carnivore's dream, relived in every tallow-filled bite. This might be the greasiest cheeseburger you will ever eat. Don't forget to ask for a side of cherry-whipped lard.

 

Lubbock's Jimenez Tortilleria y Taqueria Gets National Recognition

Head up to the panhandle and check out Jimenez Tortilleria y Taqueria in Lubbock. Texas Tech isn't the only institution in town because this taqueria is tops in Texas.

The family-owned business serves barbecue on the weekends. Many people have raved about their brisket, spare ribs, and smoked turkey.
