
Lufkin Sends Firefighters To Lubbock During Fire Risk
The weather has already started to heat up in Lubbock. The past two days they were 10 degrees hotter than Lufkin. Their temperatures are more in line with Las Vegas than the rest of Texas.
Dry, warm weather with high winds normally buffet the panhandle area and the next few weeks are the perfect mix for fires to grow out of control. The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS), and Texas A&M Forest Service are coordinating this effort.

According to the Lufkin Fire Facebook page Captains Modisette, Tutt, and Due are being sent with a Type VI engine. Lufkin is not alone as many area firefighters are being deployed.
Greg Abbott Activates Statewide Wildfire Response Teams
The wildfire potential has set a series of events in motion that sent needed personnel to West Texas and the panhandle. Today Governor Abbott directed the TDEM to activate the resources needed to mitigate the chance of a fire getting out of control.

The Texas A&M Forest Service warns that these dry conditions will continue all week. There is no rain in the forecast for the area for at least the next 10 days. Area residents are asked not to participate in activities that could create sparks.
