Visually Exciting Smither Park In Houston Could Make Your Instagram Pop
If you are busy filling your Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and other social media with pictures of yourself in interesting places, I have one close to home for you. Smither Park with its whimsical, mosaic art is a hidden gem.
Smither Park is an urban green space with a quirky collection of large mosaic sculptures created by local artists. It's listed as one of Houston's Incredible Visionary Art Sites.
You might be more familiar with another art situation that this site also plays a part in. The World Famous Houston Art Car Parade. Both are part of the Orange Show Center For Visionary Art.
The Orange Show
Smither Park is right down the street from The Orange Show. Their 40th Anniversary Gala is coming up on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021 from 7 pm - Midnight.
It will be held at the Orange Show's out-of-this-world open-air headquarters. The theme is 'The Big Bang' and relies heavily on a comic book-type theme.
They will even have Morris Day And The Time performing. They are about as close as you can get to attending a Prince concert in person. This is a fundraiser, so two tickets will run you $2,000 per couple.
Exciting Photography
Luckily Smither Park is a public space, so it doesn't cost anything to visit. The photos will be memorable.
This vibrant Houston cultural asset is on the corner of Third Ward and East End. The park is still a work in progress.
The best part of it for me is the Lindley Fish Amphitheater. Over 300 different local artists helped put the park together out of recycled or found materials.
