The Ellen Trout Zoo has now reopened one month to the day since it was closed. If you return some things will be changed. The Zoo is now ready to have guests again, but it will take some time for the grounds to return to normal.

The Ellen Trout Zoo suffered some damage during winter storm Uri. I thought it might just be a few dead palm trees, or flowering plants that would be effected. Then fast forward to today, as they reopen after being closed to visitors for over a month, we all know it was much worse.

Then the Ellen Trout Zoo revealed pictures to show us just how much damage they had at the facility. It is heartbreaking to see our zoo in such a state.

A large tree can be seen here down inside the the zoo. This was a large part of the damage. Other trees that stayed upright, had broken limbs. Experienced tree climbers have been tirelessly getting rid of all those limbs that were still in trees.

Zoo staff has commented that this winter storm has done more damage than the past two Hurricanes. They would also like to thank all the workers from the other city departments that have helped with the cleanup.

Now that they are reopened, things will slowly return to normal. If you do visit, please consider a monetary donation to the zoo. They were not taking in the usual admission fees while the cleanup and repair was happening.
