Referred to as 'The Royalty of the Garden,' in East Texas we are blessed to be a great place to grow amazing azaleas. Revered for their brightly colored flowers, they are truly beautiful. In Nacogdoches the 8 acre Ruby M. Mize Azalea garden is home to over 7,000 azaleas of 500 varieties. Known for being the largest Azalea garden in Texas, it can be found on the SFA campus.

It's almost spring time here, and in a few weeks they are really going to be out in force. Mid-March to Mid April is the best time to see them. Plus there is plenty of room for social distancing and getting out in nature to see this natural wonder in our backyard. If you are looking to plant your own Azalea plant, or an entire garden, here are a few tips. The best time to plant is in the late spring or early fall. The deciduous variants are the hardiest and can be grown further north than here. Be careful as to what kind you plant, as some can grown over 29 feet tall.
