Traffic Alert: Accident Leads To Power Outage In Lufkin, Texas

A single-vehicle accident occurred Tuesday afternoon in Lufkin,Texas on Tulane Drive. This caused a portion of the road to be closed between Ricks Road and Tulane Drive Kids Academy located behind Casa Ole'.

The vehicle struck a power pole and left area homes and businesses without power. Currently Oncor is on the scene working to repair the pole, and they should have power restored within the next four hours.

The accident happened at 2:45 PM and no major injuries were reported. The driver told officers that she was reaching for something in the floorboard when she left the road and collided with the pole.

This all occurred right before a thunderstorm rolled into town. Now the crews are working in the wet weather installing the new power pole.

You can get a false sense of security when driving on a large road with a turn lane and no cars in sight. This area has a fairly low-speed limit of 30 - 40 MPH, and the roads are winding with many hard curves.

It's Lufkin and for some reason none of the roads are straight for long. This is a route that many take to avoid HWY 59 and make their way to shopping at Academy or Wal-Mart.

On the other side of Loop 287 is the same Tulane Drive that houses this Lufkin landmark mailbox that was hit. It has since been repaired. Take a look at this mailbox in all of its glory now.
