Woman Airlifted Following Crash at Dangerous Lufkin Intersection
Lufkin Police responded Wednesday morning to a two-vehicle accident in which a Lufkin woman was air-lifted to a Tyler hospital. The accident happened around 7:35 a.m. in the 2200 block of Ellen Trout Drive when a minivan attempted to cross Sayers Street northbound into the path of a Honda Accord that was eastbound on Ellen Trout Drive.
The minivan was T-boned on its driver’s side. The woman who was airlifted was the backseat passenger in the minivan. Lufkin Police report that it appears that she was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected on impact.
The road was temporarily shut down to allow a medical helicopter to land at the scene. The woman was flown to a Tyler hospital in unknown condition. Her male driver and the male driver of the Honda were both transported by ambulance to local hospitals to be checked out. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The crash remains under investigation.
