It may not seem like it now, but years ago Lufkin had a pretty decent music scene. Even most of Lufkin's early past was founded on the music that came from the city. The Hoo Hoo band was famous all over the world.. But what about more current history? When I was younger it seemed like everyone was in a band. I know I was, and we played at every bar in town.

Local bands have not really had a venue to play. One man bands have been a staple of local restaurants. But when you are talking about Rock, you have to turn up a little louder. I have heard of a few people playing at Lugnuts Bar and Grill. Now another venue has offered up a place for local bands to get started on a path to stardom.

This time the Grand on First is that Venue. Any City Music is hosting "Overdrive at The Grand" and announcing they are trying to get things going again.

Join us March 23 at The Grand on First as we embark on a mission to bring our rock scene back home to Lufkin. We have a full lineup beginning at 7:20 p.m. with Jake Shoemaker, Can You Repeat the Question? (8:00), Pretty Decent (9:00), Hound Dog Revival (10:00) and headliner The Dead Chachis (11:00). It's BYOB, but please no outside drink mixers. Concessions and mixers will be sold onsite. Lets bring rock 'n' roll back home to stay... Doors open at 7 p.m.
