BTS revealed their new record, Love Yourself: Tear, draws from a sadder chapter of the K-pop stars' rise to stardom.

In a recent sit-down with Entertainment Tonight, the boy band spoke uprightly about how their latest album also became the most confidential of their career yet.

"This time around, it's about honesty and love," RM explained to ET of the anticipated LP, which trails the release of their 2017 extended play, Love Yourself: Her. "Sometimes we just turn away from some sort of situations, because in love and life, it's not like a fairytale. We always have a dark side, so we want to talk about like, the dark sides of love."

A semblance of that darkness and corruption can be more or less detected in the band's teaser videos for their lead single, "Fake Love," which appears on the 11-track record. BTS will also perform the tune live at the Billboard Music Awards Sunday (May 20).

The 23-year-old member later explained how the album is fueled by a personal quest for self-confidence and self-love but moreover, the band's tacit battles with depression.

"My final goal of my whole life is to love myself for real. It’s always the hardest. We sometimes compare ourselves to others. Sometimes we get really depressed," RM avowed. "But in love, we should take off the mask and be true to who we are."

Despite the tribulations of success, the group maintains the support of their fans helps give their work purpose and that they hope the album is an illustration of their gratitude.

Love Yourself: Tear releases Friday, May 18.
