California Man Takes Diboll Officers On High Speed Chase
On Tuesday, April 2, 2023, Diboll Police Officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle driving through town on HWY 59 South. Officers located the blue older model Kia Optima with California tags, and a traffic stop was initiated.
The driver ignored the officers and refused to pull over. The pursuit of the vehicle started as the driver was leaving Diboll.
Driver From San Francisco Fled Diboll Police In Foot Pursuit
The driver from San Francisco then led officers on a high-speed chase through two towns. According to the Diboll Police Department Facebook, officers were able to deploy spike strips successfully and disable the vehicle.
He drove the vehicle into an area with trees and underbrush and briefly fled on foot. The California resident was identified as Cassius Mathew-Boobie Watson.
Diboll Police charged him with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Evading, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Evidence Tampering.
He is currently in the Angelina County Jail with seven charges that add up to a $68,750 bond. The Angelina County Sheriff's Office, Corrigan Police Department, Polk County Sheriffs, and Texas Department of Public Safety worked with Diboll PD in the pursuit and arrest.

The Diboll Police Department placed ALPRs on each side of town in 2022. They get alerts when stolen vehicles pass the cameras.

The cameras are not used to find any other types of issues like expired registration or speeding. They can also use the cameras to find vehicles associated with Amber or Silver Alerts.
