Saturday night, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a fatal accident that took place west of Nacogdoches on Highway 7.  According to a report issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), an auto-pedestrian crash on State Highway 7 took place on Saturday, August 28 just west of Farm-To-Market Road 2782.  This is located between Nacogdoches and the Neches River.

After an on-scene investigation and witness accounts, the preliminary crash investigation from the Texas Department of Public Safety indicates that at approximately 10:20 p.m., a 2021 Chevrolet pickup was traveling westbound on Highway 7. The pedestrian walked from the center of the roadway and into the westbound lane in front of the vehicle, where he was struck by the Chevrolet pick up truck.

The driver of the Chevrolet is identified as 33-year-old Salvador Aguinaga from Pollok. Aguinaga and a passenger were not injured during the crash. The pedestrian is identified as 22-year-old James Davis from Diboll, was transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.  Davis was pronounced deceased a short time later. The Texas Department of Public Safety did not report the issuance of any citations.

This crash remains under investigation. Additional information is not available at this time.

This is the second fatal auto-pedestrian that has happened in Nacogdoches County in about the past month.  On Sunday, July 25, officers responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident in the 800 block of SW Stallings Drive.  In that accident, a 23-year-old Lufkin woman was killed when struck while walking in the roadway.  That accident took place around 3 a.m.
