Heavy Rains Led To Historicly Humid Days In Texas
According to the National Weather Service in Austin and San Antonio, May 2024 was historically humid. The area was included in the same high dew point averages as Houston and the rest of South Texas.
The sea temperatures on the surface and heavy rains during the month made it one of the most humid places in the U.S. Due to Hurricane Beryl, these same areas got even more rain and the humidity that came along with it.
Today temperatures in the area hit over 100 degrees, and the humidity made it feel like 107. Heat is one of the deadliest natural hazards, and we are getting the worst of it.
When The Texas Heat Becomes Unbearable
Temperatures are on the rise in Texas every year. According to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) there is a point where it becomes unbearable.

They estimated that a "wet-bulb" temperature of 95 degrees at 100% humidity, or 115 degrees at 50% humidity is as much as humans can stand. After that, our bodies can no longer maintain a healthy core temperature by sweating.
