The watch includes Angelina, Nacogdoches, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Panola, Rusk, Harrison, Gregg, Smith, Cherokee, Anderson, Trinity, and Houston Counties.

Showers and thunderstorms have been developing and intensifying across central Texas since just after lunchtime today. Those storms are expected to become more organized throughout the afternoon and nighttime hours.

Some of these storms could reach severe limits with damaging straight-line winds and hail. A few tornadoes could also develop.

Although counties to the south and southeast of Lufkin and Nacogdoches are not included in this tornado watch, the line of storms is expected to continue to push into that area later tonight. A tornado watch including counties nearer to Beaumont and Houston may be issued at a later time.

Rainfall amounts of 3 inches or more is also a possibility throughout this time period, so flooding and flash flooding could occur.
