Watch For Delays As TxDOT Sealcoats 146 Miles of Lufkin Area Roads Starting June 2
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is alerting area motorists that, beginning June 2, road crews will begin sealcoating numerous roads throughout all nine counties of its Lufkin district. In total, 146.2 miles of pavement on 26 district roads will be treated. Barricades have been and are being set, with work expected to get underway on Tuesday.
What is Sealcoating?
Homeowners sometimes use sealcoating on their wooden decks to help protect them from moisture, UV rays, and warping. The sealcoating used on asphalt is very different from that used on wood, but the purpose is the same. This layer of material is applied to roads to extend pavement life by protecting it from water intrusion, chemicals, UV radiation, and other forms of damage.
Exercise caution when driving through areas that are being treated. Getting asphalt sealcoating on your vehicle can leave a stubborn, tar-like mess on your paint and undercarriage. Once the sealer cures and hardens on your vehicle, it can be extremely difficult to remove.
