Keep It Down – New Noise Ordinance In Lufkin
At one of my former residences in Lufkin, things would get a little rowdy. The whole house would start shaking at 6 PM every Friday until late Sunday night.
It was like having an entire band in your house. No need to waste your electricity to play the radio because you likely couldn't hear it. Once I remember talking to a neighbor who had called the Lufkin Police Department about the noise.
An officer came out and did a check on the residence, but also informed the neighbor there was nothing the police could do. There was no noise ordinance in the City of Lufkin.
Lufkin City Council Approves New Noise Ordinance
Attention all Lufkin bass heads, get ready to turn down your music or face arrest. During a recent Lufkin City Council meeting, Lufkin Police Chief David Thomas proposed a new noise ordinance in the city, and it has passed according to the Lufkin Daily News.
The proposal aimed to address community concerns about noise disturbances in Lufkin. The ordnance outlines what constitutes a prohibited noise:
" - an unreasonably loud, unnecessary disturbing noise or vibration emanating from an electronic source that is offensive to the ordinary sensibility of a person, audible from 50 or more feet away"
Enforcement of the ordinance would start with a warning followed by a citation, and then arrest for repeat offenders. Chief Thomas also stated that if it comes from a vehicle it will be enforced the same, just as a traffic law.
