Lil Pump Faces Backlash for Using Racial Epithets in New Song Preview

Lil Pump is under fire for using racial epithets in a song preview he posted to his Twitter account last night (Dec. 16).

In the 41-second clip, Pump is previewing a new track titled "Butterfly Doors," with a hook that features lyrics that mock asians.

In one part of the song, he raps, "Smoking on dope, they call me Yao Ming 'cause my eyes real low! (Ching chong!)" In an offensive added visual effect, the 18-year-old rapper pulls the sides of his eyes to make them appear "slanted," and predictably, a lot of people have voiced their disappointment with the rapper.

"i was gonna say this could be a banger until i heard the ching chong yikes," wrote one Twitter user in response to the snippet Pump posted on Twitter. "That ching chong part aint it," replied another.

In her own tweet, rapper-actor Awkwafina, who is of Chinese and Korean descent, offered up her opinion on Pump's controversial lyrics.

"Always nice to hear a new song with a Ching Chong adlib," she wrote in one part of her tweet responding to Pump's lyrics. "Guess it’s better than “eyes chink” like some other verses I’ve heard. But can we at least think of some more creative racist epithets? @lilpump."

Nearly 24 hours have passed and Lil Pump has yet to respond to the controversial post, nor has he removed it from his Twitter account. Based on the Florida rapper's track record, the likelihood of a response at all seems rather low.

Earlier this month, Pump appeared on the late XXXTentacion's first posthumous album, Skins, on a collaboration with Maluma and Swae Lee titled "Arms Around You." The visual featured collaged depictions of Lil Pump and the late XXXTentacion, who shared a tight bond. So tight, in fact, that Pump gave himself a tattoo in tribute to XXX after his passing earlier this year.
