Lufkin ISD Gets A B On Their Report Card
If you have children in the Lufkin Independent School District (LISD) or are about to be, take note of these reports. After multiple legal delays, the Texas Education Agency has released accountability ratings for the 2022-2023 school year.

I am a product of a combination of LISD and Diboll ISD, so the fact that they got a B rating in Lufkin with a score of 81 is a source of pride. There is room to improve; the district's STAAR scores are down slightly, but 79% of LISD students who took the SAT or ACT are at "meets grade level".
We are way above the state average of 59%.

School progress is 70% of the rating, and the district got an 84. According to the Lufkin Daily News, the 2023-24 Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR) are still being held up in court.
Lufkin Scores Trail State Average By Seven Points
It is worth noting that 87% of Lufkin ISD students are considered economically disadvantaged. Lufkin's scores lagged behind the rest of the state average by 7 points.
Grading standards change, and many other related factors make these numbers change yearly. We also have a new LISD Superintendent, James Hockenberry, who only took over a year ago.

He says that he cannot speak to the past, but the academic growth goals show how important it is to the school board. They have received quarterly reports this year, and he believes it will improve STAAR scores.
