Lufkin ISD Raises Teacher Pay To 50K

My mother taught school all over Southeast Texas for a very long time. She, like many other teachers, worked long hours to educate your children and didn't get rich in the process.

These are public schools, and none of the teachers in Lufkin ISD entered this profession under the assumption that they would make a lot of money. I do think they should make a livable wage, and not have to work three jobs to make ends meet.

Now, Lufkin ISD has made strides to bring a new pay scale for teachers to ensure that every LISD teacher will make at least $50,000 a year. Starting pay for Lufkin Police Department is 60K+, with no college degree required, so this is at least a step in the right direction for teachers in Lufkin.

Five Percent Increase For All Teachers At LISD

After some painful restructuring, like the closing of Coston Elementary and Kurth Primary campuses, the district is applying this new pay scale not just for teachers but also librarians and registered nurses who work for Lufkin ISD. The new pay rates will take effect for the 2025 - 2026 school year.

There have been raises discussed for other positions, but nothing has been decided yet.

According to the Lufkin Daily News, this will put Lufkin ISD's starting teacher salaries higher than every other district in Angelina County. That should be the case, since it's the biggest town in the county.
