Lufkin PD Release Photo of Vehicle of Interest in Fatal Hit & Run
Nearly a month has passed since the fatal hit and run accident that took place on Friday, April 15 on Pershing Street in Lufkin. Detectives with the Lufkin Police Department have been looking for leads and canvassing the area in hopes of finding a surveillance camera that may have taken video of the vehicle involved in the incident.
The Department’s investigation has led to a vehicle of interest – a white SUV – as pictured in these video stills from a nearby business around the time of the accident – around 10:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Pershing Avenue.
The Department would once again like to remind anyone who lives or works in the area (even side streets off Pershing Avenue from Loop 287 to Southwood Drive) with cameras to please check them on the date and time in question.
Anyone with information on this vehicle and/or driver is asked to call the Department at 936-633-0356 or Crime Stoppers at 936-639-TIPS or online Submit a Tip — Crime Stoppers (639tips.com).
The hit and run incident claimed the life of 14-year-old Gracie Massey. Massey and two other juveniles were walking west on Pershing Avenue in the center turn lane when a vehicle approached them from behind also traveling west. The juveniles told officers that because the vehicle was in the turn lane, they believed it was going to slow down and turn before reaching them.
The incident remains under investigation.
