The Lufkin Police Department responded to a single-vehicle, rollover accident in which a woman and three children were injured.

According to a media release from the Lufkin PD, the woman was traveling southbound in the 1000 block of John Redditt Drive near Lockheed Martin around 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon when her Suburban left the road for an unknown reason. The vehicle barrel-rolled several times before crashing through a private-property gate. It then rolled several more times before coming to rest upright in a brushy field.

The report goes on to state that the woman and two of the children, ages 5 and 8, were ejected from the vehicle while the third child, a 1-year-old, remained inside the sport utility vehicle thanks to a strapped-down car seat, according to witnesses.

The woman and three children were all taken by ambulance to local hospitals with unknown injuries. As of 5 p.m., the woman and 5-year-old were being flown to out-of-town hospitals for further treatment.

Lufkin Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash. A crash investigator estimated that the vehicle rolled at least seven times based on evidence at the scene.

As of 5:45 this afternoon, the names of the four persons involved in the accident have not been released.  We will have updates to this story when more information is released by authorities.
