Lufkin’s Water: Local Legend, Unique Benefits
Lufkin's water is somewhat of a local legend. Visitors might turn their noses up at its distinctive aroma, but longtime residents know it's a key part of what makes our town special.
We have the strangest yet somehow the best water in Texas. The groundwater here is pumped from 12 wells in the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer.

The water naturally contains hydrogen sulfide gas, which gives it that "rotten egg" smell. The levels are far below any health concern, but our noses are very sensitive to it.
Hidden Benefits Of Lufkin's Soft Water
A water filter of any type will make Lufkin tap water taste amazing. Just filter it a bit to remove any off-taste, and you are good to go.
If we lived somewhere with hard water, like Lubbock, there is an entirely different set of issues. Hard water can stain sink basins and even show up on clothes in the laundry.
We take it for granted here that if you wash your car, you won't get hard water spots and stains on your paint because we have soft water. Larger metro areas have harder water, and detailers use all kinds of filters to soften the water they use on vehicles.
