Chicken Tenders, Chicken Nuggets, or Chicken Fingers, no matter what you call it, Deep East Texas has a love affair with pieces of chicken deep fried to a golden brown. We all know about Raising Canes and their amazing chicken fingers, but now they will have more competition in Nacogdoches.

According to the dailysentinel.com the Texas-based Layne's Chicken Fingers is staking their claim in Nacogdoches this year. The first Layne's Chicken Fingers restaurant opened in College Station in 1994, two years before Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers opened in Batton Rouge, LA.

The restaurant will be operational before the end of the year at the former location of Long John Silver at 1505 North Street in Nacogdoches. The Nacogdoches location closed in 2020, and the Lufkin location closed in September 2022.

Layne's Chicken Fingers' 5-Year Plan Will Bring 250 New Locations

According to Layne's CEO Garrett Reed's interview with the Daily Sentinel, this new location will be different than most current restaurants. The new layout was recently developed to facilitate scaling up and adding 250 locations, half of which will be outside of Texas.

The Long John Silvers was demolished in Nacogdoches right before Christmas to entice investors to the property, and it seems to have worked. The location is within walking distance of SFA, and Layne's vibe works great in college towns.

There is no grand opening date yet, so we will have to wait a little longer to try the newest chicken fingers in town. You could get a sneak peek at their closest location in Tyler. There are also quite a few in Houston.
