Early Sunday morning, the Nacogdoches Police Department responded to the scene of a reported auto/pedestrian accident that took place on the southwest part of Loop 224, near Mockingbird Lane.

According to a post released around 3 a.m. Sunday on the Nacogdoches Police Department's Facebook Page, officers were on scene on a fatal motor vehicle accident in the 800 block of SW Stallings Drive.  Preliminary information gathered at the scene shows that a vehicle traveling northbound on the Loop struck an adult female that was walking in the roadway.

The 23-year-old victim from Lufkin was transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital but died from her injuries. The victim's identity is being held pending notification of family. All northbound traffic had to be re-routed for a few hours as the scene was being processed. No reported charges or citations have been issued in this accident.

The Nacogdoches Police Department's Traffic division will continue their investigation into the incident. As further information becomes available it will be released.

Also, in a post on the Nacogdoches Police Department's Facebook Page, the investigation continues on a drowning incident that took place at Splash Kingdom on University Drive on Friday evening.  A 3-year-old boy was found in the water and was unresponsive.  Lifeguards and EMS responders performed life saving techniques on the boy, who eventually was taken to a local hospital.  The boy was reportedly taken to a hospital in a larger city to better address his needs.
