Lufkin Police are responding today (Sunday) to the collapse of a portion of the roof and connecting overhang at the Palms Shopping Center on the South Loop in Lufkin.  At first glance, it appears that one of the main stores affected is the plasma donation center.

Other stores in the center include Marco's Pizza and Tokyo Steakhouse, however, it appears that neither of those stores were damaged.  According to a spokesperson, Lufkin Police received an alarm call just before noon from Screen Geeks.  Police arrived to find around 100 feet of the shopping center roof from Coburns to Red Wing had come down.  Five cars were damaged.  Severe storms hit the area yesterday afternoon and strong winds associated with a cold front have been gusting over 30 mph since Saturday evening.

Lufkin Police are on the scene and have the area blocked off.  No injuries have been reported.
