If taking a road trip with the expectation of being terrified sounds like your kind of fun, you will love this travel idea. The team at loveExploring made a list of 50 heart-pumping places in every state.

They have rated one Texas attraction as the most stomach-churning experience in the Lone Star State. The Tower of the Americas was built in 1968 to celebrate the World's Fair coming to San Antonio for their 250th anniversary.

The Tower Of The Americas Looms Large Above San Antonio

I don't know what the fascination with needle-type buildings in the '60s was all about, but they popped up all around the globe ever since. The Space Needle in Seattle, Washington was also built as part of a World's Fair.

The Space Needle was completed in 1962 and is only 605 feet high. In Texas we always do things bigger, so the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio, built just a few years later, topped it by almost 150 feet.

The Tower of the Americas is nearly 14 stories higher than the Space Needle. Later in 1996, Las Vegas completed the Stratosphere. It topped out at 1,149 feet high.

Many towers in other countries are higher than the Tower of the Americas and the Stratosphere. The CN Tower in Toronto, Ontario, Canada was completed in 1976 and is 1,816 feet high.

There is a viewing platform with a bar and restaurant right at the top of the structure, and once you get there, it's not so scary. It's the 750-foot journey straight up in a glass-fronted elevator that puts this attraction at the top of the heap.
