Two Iconic Timberland Drive Hotels Torn Down In Lufkin, Texas
When driving down Timberland Drive in Lufkin today you will notice some big changes. The Sun-In Pines Motel and Beams Motel have both been torn down.
Changes are coming to the Timberland Drive area in Lufkin. These two big hotels are no more.
That being said, there are still a lot of memories of these places. Many remember swimming in the pool at the Sun-In-Pines Motel.
What Is Going To Replace These?
Do we need another gas station? How about another dollar store? Something pretty large could go in these spaces.
New construction is always a positive thing. I guess moving new businesses out to Loop 287 is no longer a thing for businesses.
They are coming for your land on Timberland Drive. I guess holding onto this property and renting it out worked out for someone.
Where Were These?
The Sun-N-Pines Motel was the swankiest hotel in Lufkin back in the '50s. It was right across from Burger King.
The Beams Motel was right up next to Lufkin BBQ. If you have even been there for some amazing barbecue then you know that location as well.
Both were torn down on the same day. That leads me to believe that they are now owned by the same person.
Things Are Moving Fast
I went by Sun-N-Pines at the end of last month. They were still operating as a hotel as recently as September 5th, 2021.
Things usually move slowly around the Lufkin area. Progress isn't leaving much time for reminiscing anymore.
