Today was the day we knew was coming, demolition crews showed up at Casa Morales. A part of Redland and Deep East Texas was eradicated from the side of HWY 59/I69. In just a minutes with an excavator bucket and staple of East Texas was gone.

Casa Morales in Redland on Highway 59 lost to progress. For over 45 years, it was an in-between place for friends and family from the twin cities to meet. There was live music, and adult beverages. Thanks so much to Juanita and and her family for all of the great food throughout all the years.

Special thanks to Mike Maberry Owner at Freedom Hill for so graciously letting me use his videos.

Luckily the Morales on South First Street in Lufkin one isn't going anywhere and even expanding. This chapter for Casa Morales, and more importantly the Morales family is done. Sunday, December 29th 2019 was the last day they served delicious food from the Redland location. Here we are 6 months later and it's gone.

More and more expansion, and most importantly, feeder roads are needed to keep the new Interstate 69 project on track. That put the restaurant right in the path of progress. This has been almost a decade in the planning stages. It will be missed, but the gracious family that gave Lufkinites actual hot salsa with their chips, and their restaurant will continue.

It's the salsa that is continuing the growth of the Morales brand now. I haven't had it in weeks, and my eyes are watering and sinuses clearing over the very thought.
