High-Speed Chase In Nacogdoches County Starts In School Zone
While working on a report on felony arrests in Nacogdoches County last week, I noticed that one of the men arrested had a lot of charges. The combined bail worked out to over 100K.
There was a charge for evading arrest with a motor vehicle, so I knew there had to be more to the story. According to dailysentinel.com, Christopher Michael Chaney, 41, of Ashland City, Tennessee was caught speeding in a Central Heights School Zone north of Nacogdoches.
A Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) deputy on patrol near the school on U.S. 259 initiated a traffic stop on Chaney for speeding and an obscured license plate around 7:15 am on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
High Speed Chase Though Multiple School Zones In Nacogdoches County
Chaney fled driving back south, at times reaching 120mph in his 2020 Toyota compact car. The Nacogdoches PD, Texas DPS, and other sheriff deputies joined in on the chase as it headed southbound on the loop in Nacogdoches.
Chaney exited at State Highway 7 and started heading north again. A press release from NCSO stated that the suspect was observed throwing several items out of the vehicle along HWY 59 during the chase.

Officers in Shelby County were contacted as the chase extended though Timpson and onto State Highway 87 before ending near the intersection of FM 415 in Shelby County.
Deputies Retrace Route And Find Drugs And A Firearm
Once the chase was over, deputies went back and found the suspected methamphetamine, prescription pills, and a firearm. When they searched Chaney's vehicle they found 1.8lbs of marijuana in two packages, a felony amount.

If convicted Chaney faces up to 70 years in prison and up to $70,000 in fines. Here were all the felony charges that he will be facing below.
