Lufkin Pizzeria Temporarily Closed After 31 Health Code Violations

If you eat out in Angelina County you want to be assured that all the restaurants meet cleanliness standards. That is where the Angelina County and Cities Health District comes in.

They are the final authorities in the county for food safety. Their reports, though somewhat delayed, help you decide the places in town where you spend your hard-earned dollars.

The Lufkin Daily News recently published the health department's findings for August 2024. Their reports center around the cleanliness of the establishment, not the taste or quality of the food.

31 Violations At Cici's Pizza In August

The Angelina County and Cities Health District inspected Cici's Pizza at 3053 S. John Redditt Drive in Lufkin on August 15, 2024. During their full inspection, they found 31 health code violations.

They found the restaurant in need of a good cleaning and some of the fixtures in disrepair. There was a black residue inside the ice machine and a bucket holding pizza pans stored directly on the floor.

A water leak was observed at the three-compartment sink, and food in the hand-washing sink. An employee was found to have washed equipment but did not sanitize it, and it was placed on the floor to air dry.

Complaints Made About Air Conditioning Led To Restaurant Being Shut Down

The health department received multiple complaints about the air conditioning not functioning at this location on May 22 and June 13. A higher temperature in the building led to ineffective cold-holding measures at the salad bar and pizza prep tables, resulting in the ultimate reason for the closure in August.

They reopened after making the needed repairs on August 20, 2024.
