Way back in the 1980's, I was working at KASE 101 and KVET radio stations in Austin, Texas. I was also a student at the time at the University of Texas. (Hey, for all you Aggies, keep in mind that I went to both UT-Austin and Texas A&M, so there). Anyway, I became very familiar with the Austin City Limits concerts that were held on the campus of U.T., but I never received a ticket or an invite to go to an ACL taping.

These concerts were basically shot inside a studio with scenery that was built to look like an outdoor concert with the skyline of downtown Austin and the University of Texas in the backdrop. The video below of George Strait performing back in the 1980s gives a good representation of what I'm talking about.

No, I was not fortunate enough to be at that taping...would have been nice.  I did finally get tickets to go see an Austin City Limits show.  It was the late 1980s and the Desert Rose Band was on stage.  I've looked through the video but I'm not able to pick myself out in the crowd shots.  I can't even remember where I was sitting...but I was there.

Austin City Limits got its start in 1974, but it has now blossomed into a huge two-weekend music festival.  The 2021 version is going to be held in October at Zilker Park in Austin.  Over 100 musical acts will be performing including George Strait!

We've been hearing his name a lot as of the past few days.  He's going to be performing next year at the Houston Rodeo and he's just announced a couple of performances in Las Vegas in the Summer.  And, now this.

3-day ACL festival tickets are now on sale.  Some of the other performers include Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish and Asleep at the Wheel.
